Theater Awards Presented At Bridgewater College

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Four Bridgewater College students have been awarded the annual acting awards from Theatre at BC. Timothy Duffey was recognized as Best Actor, Rachelle White as Best Actress, Patrick J. Gurney as Best Supporting Actor and Jennifer M. Payne as Best Supporting Actress.

The awards, based on a collective of work during the 2007-2008 academic year, were presented at the Creative Arts Awards on April 30.

Duffey, a freshman communication studies major with a minor in philosophy and religion, received the Best Actor award. He is the son of Scott and Becky Duffey of Westminster, Md.

White, a senior art major with a minor in theater, received the Best Actress award. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Arthur White of Warrenton, Va.

Gurney, a senior sociology major with a minor in crime and justice, was presented the Best Supporting Actor award. He is the son of Dr. Joan Neff of Richmond, Va., and Dr. Patrick Gurney.

Payne received the Best Supporting Actress award. A junior English major with a minor in theater, she is the daughter of Robert and Susan Payne of Frederick, Md.

The Pinion Player of the Year award is presented annually for the greatest overall contribution to the theater program during the academic year, and the recipient is elected by members of the Pinion Players. This year, the award was given to Megan E. Hiatt, a senior biology and sociology double major. She is the daughter of Nikla Hiatt of Virginia Beach, Va.

Ryan Howard received the Technical Theatre Award, which is presented to the student who exhibits outstanding achievement in technical theater production. Howard, a senior majoring in communication studies with a minor in theater, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Howard of Petersburg, W.Va.

Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls more than 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college.
