Bridgewater College Seniors Selected For Who's Who | ||

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Thirty Bridgewater College seniors have been selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The students are Erin A. Brummett of Williamsburg, Va.; Sarah Bucher of Harrisonburg, Va.; C.J. Caniglia of Waldorf, Md.; Lauren Crawford of Myersville, Md.; Rachael Creasey of Chesterfield, Va.; Laura M. Daniel of Madison, Va.; Faith Elliott of Downingtown, Pa.; Danielle Eubank of Cloverdale, Va.; Heather Lynne-Michelle Galang of Bridgewater, Va.; Jen Greenholt of Yadkinville, N.C.; Dano Heatwole of Bridgewater, Va.; and Brittany Higgins of Williamsport, Md. Also selected were Jefferson W. Highfill Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; Nathan Hollenberg of Westminster, Md.; Meggie Lam of Waynesboro, Va.; Ian McNeil of Summersville, W.Va.; Whitney Minnick of Broadway, Va., Holly Moyers of Harrisonburg, Va.; Jessica Powers of Hagerstown, Md.; Diana Rose Ricker of Levittown, Pa.; Daniel Rudy of Mount Airy, Md.; Amber N. Stewart of Aberdeen, Md.; Julia Stutzman of Bridgewater, Va.; Tara Summy of Manheim, Pa.; Sharon Sweet of Winchester, Va.; Amber Hale Thompson of Copper Hill, Va.; Jennifer M. Upshaw of Ruther Glen, Va.; Jessica Vilella of Connellsville, Pa.; and Brittany Wells of Colonial Heights, Va.; The students are cited for academic achievement, community service and leadership activities. The 2008 edition of Who's Who lists students from more than 2,000 colleges and universities throughout the United States and several foreign countries. The directory of outstanding students has been published since 1934. Brummett is the daughter of Paul and Leah Brummett and Vicky and Bob Dennis, all of Williamsburg, Va. An English and communication studies double major, Brummett is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater's scholastic honor society and Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society. She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, a national communications honor society, and is vice president of the campus chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. Brummett is a member of the Honor Council and is captain of the Forensics and Debate teams. She has served as a judge for the College's annual High School Forensics and Debate Tournament. She is a member of the Oratorio Choir and serves as a resident assistant in her residence complex. In November 2007, Brummett presented a paper, "Moral Lessons within Macbeth and Othello: the Individual vs. Society," at the Undergraduate Research Shakespeare Conference at Virginia Military Institute. Bucher is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bucher of Harrisonburg, Va. A business administration major with a minor in communication studies, she is a member of the Philomathes Society, and Alpha Chi. As a junior, Bucher received the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award from Omicron Delta Kappa. She is a leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has participated in intramural sports. a volunteer with the Eastern Mennonite High School softball program and also tutors high school mathematics. Caniglia is the son of Sharon Caniglia of Waldorf, Md., and Ken Caniglia. A biology major, he is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. He also is a member of the Flory Fellowship of Scholars, Bridgewater's honors program. In May 2006, Caniglia received the Chemical Rubber Company Freshman Award for outstanding accomplishment in chemistry. A member of the College's Equestrian team, Caniglia was named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Riding Team as a freshman. As a junior, he was named the ODAC Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He also was recognized on the Virginia Sports Information Directors (Va.SID) Academic All-State team. In addition, Caniglia has been a member of the Equitation Club while a student at Bridgewater College. Crawford is the daughter of Craig and Kathy Crawford of Myersville, Md. A history and political science major, Crawford is a member of the Philomathes Society, Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society, and serves as secretary of the campus chapter of Alpha Chi.She serves as president of the Student Ambassador Association and has participated in intramural sports all four years as a student at Bridgewater. On March 8, Crawford presented a paper, "To a Land They Had Never Known: American Women Serving on the Pacific Islands during World War II," at the Virginia Regional Conference of Phi Alpha Theta held at Christopher Newport University. Creasey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Creasey of Chesterfield. An allied health science major, Creasey is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. She serves as a tutor. A member of the women's soccer team her first three years at Bridgewater College, Creasey was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman. In addition, she participated in intramural sports. As a sophomore and junior, she served on the Student Athletic Advisory committee. She also served as a team captain for Relay for Life. Daniel, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Daniel of Madison, Va. A communication studies major with minors in business administration, art and family and consumer sciences, Daniel is a member of the Philomathes Society and Lambda Pi Eta. She is a member of Campus Crusade for Christ and has served as layout editor for Veritas, the campus student newspaper. During Daniel's first three years at Bridgewater College, she was a member of the Family and Consumer Sciences Club and the Student Virginia Education Association (SVEC). Elliott is the daughter of Ron and Deanie Elliott of Downingtown, Pa. A family and consumer sciences major with a minor in business administration, Elliott is a member of the Philomathes Society and Omicron Delta Kappa. She is a member of the Student Ambassador Association and is on the leadership team for Campus Crusade for Christ. Elliott also is production manager for Eagle Productions, a group on campus that plans activities. Eubank is the daughter of Roger and Glenna Eubank of Cloverdale, Va. A Spanish and biology double major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society. She serves on the College's Committee on Religious Activities. Galang is a member of the Student Ministry Council and serves as a Student Peer Minister. She is also coordinator of the Student Service Board. She is a member of the Chorale and the Concert and Oratorio choirs. Galang is vice president of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and has participated in two Collegiate Challenge Alternate Spring Break trips. Greenholt is the daughter of Chandy and Pam Greenholt of Yadkinville, N.C. An English major with minors in international studies and communication studies, she is a member of the Philomathes Society and serves as president of the campus chapter of Alpha Chi. She is a member of the Honor Council and is a member of the Flory Fellowship of Scholars. As a member and publicity officer of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Greenholt has participated in two Collegiate Challenge Alternate Spring Break trips. She is copy editor of Veritas and as a junior, she studied in New Zealand under the Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA) program. Active in theatre, Greenholt is a member of the Pinion Players, the campus theatre group, and has had roles in Theatre at Bridgewater productions. In November 2007, Greenholt presented a paper, "Recreating the Restoration Woman: Tate's A History of King Lear," at the Undergraduate Research Shakespeare Conference at Virginia Military Institute. The paper received the award for Best in Conference. Heatwole is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ransford Heatwole of Bridgewater. A biology and environmental science double major with a minor in philosophy and religion, he is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi and serves as chair of the Honor Council. Heatwole is secretary of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and has participated in three Collegiate Challenge Alternate Spring Break trips. As a junior, he studied in New Zealand during the fall semester under the BCA. He has volunteered with Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief and is a member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Rescue Squad. Higgins is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Higgins of Williamsport, Md. A communication studies major, she is a member of Lambda Pi Eta. She is a member of the Student Senate and serves as an orientation leader. Higgins is a contributor to Veritas and is a member of the Dance Team. She also is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has participated in intramural sports. She volunteers in food service and with the single mother's service at Valley Church in Harrisonburg, Va. Highfill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Highfill of Roanoke, Va. A mathematics major with a minor in business administration, he is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. He serves on the College's Athletic Advisory Committee and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. He is a member of the Mathematical Association of America. As quarterback for the Bridgewater Eagles football team, Highfill earned many honors and awards. In both his junior and senior years, he was named the ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year. A philosophy and religion major with minors in peace studies and international studies, he is a member of the Philomathes Society. He is a member and leader of the Brethren Student Movement and serves on the College's Committee on Religious Activities. He also is a member of the Council on Religious Activities and the Student Ministry Council. Hollenberg is a four-year member of the College's deputation teams, which provide programs for churches throughtout the mid-Atlantic region. Active in music, Hollenberg is a member of the Chorale, the Concert Choir and the Oratorio Choir. He also performs with the Outspoken worship band. He participates in intramural sports and is on the staff of Veritas. Lam is the daughter of Patty Lam of Waynesboro, and the late Darrell Lam. An international studies major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater's scholastic honor society. Lam is also a member of the Flory Fellowship of Scholars, the College's honors program. She is a member of Campus Crusade for Christ and is a volunteer with the Pregnancy Center in Staunton, Va. As a junior, she served as president of the College Republicans. She also completed an internship with Skyline Literacy Coalition. McNeil is the son of Scott and Kimary McNeil of Summersville, W.Va. A chemistry major, McNeil is a member of the Philomathes Society, Alpha Chi and Omicron Delta Kappa. A member of the campus chapter of the American Chemical Society, McNeil has served as its president for the past two years. He also served as president of his Junior Class. As a freshman, McNeil received the Chemical Rubber Company Freshman Award for outstanding accomplishment in chemistry. As a sophomore, he earned the John Martin Organic Chemistry Award for accomplishments in chemistry and research. He is a four-year participant in intramural sports and led a Collegiate Challenge Alternate Spring Break trip to Miami. He has served as a peer minister for Lutheran Presbyterian Campus Ministry. Minnick is the daughter of Frank and Christine Minnick of Broadway, Va. A business administration major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. She is a member of the Society for Advancement of Management and serves as a committee chair for the Society of Human Resource Management. She also serves as a committee chair for Relay for Life. Moyers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moyers of Harrisonburg, Va. A communication studies major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society and Lambda Pi Eta. She is a member of the Student Service Board and Bridgewater Women United. She also is a writer for Veritas. She completed an internship in special events and public relations at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Currently, Moyers is a marketing coordinator at Power Monitors Inc. (PMI). As a junior, she studied in New Zealand under BCA. Ricker is the daughter of Bill and Dianne Ricker of Levittown, Pa. At Bridgewater, she is a liberal studies major. She is on the staff of WGMB. In May 2007, Ricker was one of several national winners of the Nationwide Learning National Book Challenge for her book, Fishtopia, which she wrote and illustrated. A four-year member of the women's tennis team, Ricker has served as captain as a junior and senior. She also has participated in intramural sports all four years and is a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Rudy is the son of Ronald and Susan Rudy of Mount Airy, Md. A philosophy and religion major with a minor in peace studies, he is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. He has been a member of the Brethren Student Movement all four years at Bridgewater and serves on its leadership team. In February 2005, Rudy was one of five Bridgewater College students to participate in the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and Wachovia Bank sponsored Ethics Bowl. In January 2006, Rudy went to Palestine for two weeks as part of a small Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) delegation. Stewart is the daughter of Taunya L. Stewart of Aberdeen, Md. An allied health science and nutrition and wellness double major, Stewart is a member of the Philomathes Society. She also is a member of the Flory Fellowship of Scholars. She is a member of the Student Senate and serves on the College's Committee on Student Affairs. Stewart is a member of the Black Student Association and Eagle Productions. She is a member of the Student Ambassador Association and is a resident assistant in her housing complex. She also has participated in intramural sports. For the past three years, Stewart has served as a volunteer with Special Olympics. She works with the Multicultural Leadership Program at Bridgewater serving as a mentor to minority freshmen and transfer students. During the summer of 2007, she participated in the Monster Diversity Leadership Program where student-leaders are connected with top-industry companies to develop critical life and career skills while embracing corporate diversity. Stutzman is the daughter of Dick and Carolyn Stutzman of Bridgewater, Va. A biology and environmental science double major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society and Alpha Chi. She serves as vice president of the campus chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a national theatre honor society. She serves as president of Believers Strongly United and is station manager for WGMB. Upshaw completed a production internship with Vox Communications. Vilella is the daughter of Paul and Carole Vilella of Connellsville, Pa. An international studies major with a minor in communication studies, she is a member of the Philomathes Society and Omicron Delta Kappa. She is a member of the Student Senate and serves as president of the Student Body. As a sophomore and junior, she was vice president of the Student Body. Vilella serves on the College's Committees on Curricular Development and Student Affairs. She is a member of the Student Ambassador Association and serves as an orientation leader. Vilella is a contributor for Veritas and has served as support staff and a facilitator for HSLA. Elected by her peers, Vilella was crowned Homecoming Queen in October 2007. Wells is the daughter of John and Darlene Wells of Colonial Heights, Va. A liberal studies major, she is a member of the Philomathes Society. She is a four-year member of the women's track and cross country teams. Wells was named to the All-State Cross Country first team as a senior and as a freshman, was selected for the All-ODAC first team. She also participates in intramural sports.
