New Speakers Bureau Listing Available | ||

BRIDGEWATER, Va. The 2008-2009 edition of Bridgewater College's Speakers Bureau, listing more than 90 presentations by 31 faculty and staff members, is now available and has been distributed to area schools, churches and civic clubs. The Speakers Bureau features a wide range of topics for all ages. Learn about the physics of making homemade ice cream, how to prepare a healthy gourmet-style meal on a shoestring budget and search for your family roots. Presentations can be scheduled on public speaking, grief counseling and conflict mediation. Topics also include creating effective Web sites for churches and organizations, as well as computer-based accommodations at home and in the workplace for people with disabilities. Speakers are available to talk on current issues including terrorism, Iraq and the Bush administration, the current crisis in the Middle East and the transition of Apartheid in South Africa. Ethics at work and ethical considerations of stem cells are also options available. A topic with special interest to elementary, middle and high school age students is "Chem-ahhh-stry!" – a conglomeration of chemical demonstrations such as polymers, magic color changes, colored flames and explosions. Also, "DNA: The Amazing Molecule" – a hands-on workshop for students, and "Bluegrass for Parents and Children Workshop." Also included are experts to help high-school students prepare for college, understand the college admissions process and learn what it is like to be a college student.
