Local Senior Exhibits Work At Bridgewater College

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Bridgewater College senior art major Amanda Tutwiler will exhibit her work in a senior art thesis exhibit Nov. 27 - Dec. 13 in the Cleo Driver Miller Art Gallery.

A reception for the artist will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in the Miller Gallery. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Tutwiler's exhibit, "Variations on the Organic," features acrylic paint with the addition of texture created by sand, stone and molding pastes. Painting on large boards, Tutwiler uses abstract shapes taken from nature such as leaves, grass, trees and flowers.

The curve of leaves, the way branches of trees overlap or the shape of a blade of grass – since middle school, these have all been doodled on the borders of Tutwiler's notebook pages. Now they come to life as the center of her art works. Using vibrant and deeply saturated colors, she carries a different shade of green throughout each painting.

Tutwiler, a 2002 graduate of Turner Ashby High School, is the daughter of Charles and Pamyla Tutwiler of Harrisonburg, Va. She will complete her studies at Bridgewater College at the end of Interterm in January 2007 and will receive a B.A. degree in art in May 2007.

The Miller Gallery is located adjacent to the information desk in the Kline Campus Center lounge and is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. For more information, call 540-828-5684.

Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls more than 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college.
