Three Bridgewater College Seniors Give Voice Recital

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Three Bridgewater College seniors, Kristen Everett, Sara Kate Moore and Elizabeth Baker, will present a voice recital at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music.

The recital begins with two duets by Everett and Moore, "Two Daughters of an Aged Stream are We" from King Arthur by Henry Purcell and "Quelle fior que l'alba" from Cantata XV by G.F. Handel. Mary Beth Flory, adjunct instructor of music, will serve as piano accompanist.

For her soprano recital, Everett will perform "El Jillguerillo" by Blas de Lacerna and three pieces "Mein Lied ertönt," "Als die alte Mutter" and "Darf des Falken Schwinge" from Antonin Dvoák's Ziegeunerlied Opus 55.

She also will perform "Winter," "Hymn" and "Spring" from Six Elizabethan Songs by Dominic Argento and "Olympia's Aria" from Tales of Hofmann by Jacques Offenbach.

At Bridgewater, Everett studies voice under Joyce Wead, adjunct instructor of music, and will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Larry Taylor, assistant professor of music.

Everett, a music and Spanish double major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Everett of Haymarket, Va. At Bridgewater, Everett is a member of the Chorale and the Concert, Oratorio and Handbell choirs. She also is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, a national theatre honor society, and the Spanish Club. She serves on the staff of Ripples, the College's yearbook.

For her soprano recital, Moore will perform pieces by Ludwig von Beethoven, "ich liebe dich" and "Andenken." Jessica Flory Steury, a sophomore music major from Kettering, Ohio, will be flute accompanist on "io son quell gelsomino" from Antonio Vivaldi's Arsilda Regina di Ponto.

Moore, who studies under Wead, will be accompanied on piano by Flory.

An Allied health science major with a minor in equine studies, Moore is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew L. Moore of Fredericksburg, Va. At Bridgewater, she is a member of the Concert Choir, the Equestrian Team and the Equitation Club.

For her mezzo-soprano recital, Baker will perform "Must the Winter Come So Soon" and "Under the Willow Tree" from Samuel Barber's opera Vanessa. She also will sing "The Crucifixion" by Barber and "In Time of Silver Rain" by Jean Berger.

At Bridgewater, Baker studies voice under Dr. Jesse E. Hopkins, the Edwin L. Turner Distinguished Professor of Music. She will be accompanied on piano by Hopkins and Taylor.

Baker, a psychology major with a minor in music, is the daughter of Maynard and Fern Baker of Moneta, Va. At Bridgewater, she is a member of the Chorale and the Concert Choir.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls more than 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college.
