U.S. Presidents Explored In Bridgewater College Exhibit

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — An exhibit titled "Hail To the Chief," featuring a number of interesting and sometimes quirky artifacts associated with the presidency of the United States, will go on display Presidents Day, Feb. 19, in Bridgewater College's Reuel B. Pritchett Museum.

The exhibit will run through May 31 and will be open Monday through Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Dale Harter, the College's archivist and director of the museum, said "Hail To the Chief" is designed to illustrate the presidency through items that were produced to turn a commercial profit, as well as those that have true historical significance.

The exhibit will feature 50 to 100 items, including a deed signed by Thomas Jefferson, a campaign button for Herbert Hoover, a vase depicting James A. Garfield, a lithograph of the death of Andrew Jackson and commemorative coins and bottles.

"On display are items that people may never have seen or heard of before," Harter said. "Most of these items particularly the commercial ones disappeared from the American scene many years ago and are only found today in antique shops and private collections."
