Bridgewater To Participate In Private College Week

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College is one of 24 colleges and universities participating in the annual Virginia Private College Week, Monday, July 30, to Saturday, Aug. 4.

The program, launched in 1997, is sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV), to promote educational opportunities available at the commonwealth's private colleges. Each college or university will host two open houses daily for prospective students and their families during the week. The morning and afternoon sessions, held Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., will include campus tours, financial aid and admissions workshops and curriculum/program overviews. On Saturday (Aug. 4), there will be a 9 a.m. session only.

Each prospective student who visits three of the 24 participating CICV institutions will receive three application fee waivers for Virginia private colleges.

Besides Bridgewater College, other schools participating include Eastern Mennonite University, Lynchburg College, Mary Baldwin College, Randolph College, Roanoke College and Shenandoah University.

CICV was founded in 1971 to promote the interests of nonprofit, independent higher education in Virginia. The Council also was instrumental in starting the state's Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) program. All full-time undergraduate students from Virginia who attend a CICV institution in 2007-2008 will be eligible to receive a TAG award from the Commonwealth of Virginia for approximately $3,200.

For more information on Virginia Private College Week, contact the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia at (540) 586-0606, or visit www.cicv.org. The admissions offices of participating CICV colleges and universities can also provide details.

Bridgewater College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, enrolls over 1,500 students. Founded in 1880 and located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, it was the state's first private, coeducational senior college.
