BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Karen R. Whetzel, a music major from Crimora, Va., will present a senior clarinet recital at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music. The evening recital also includes Tim Stuart, a music major from Staunton, Va., in a junior alto saxophone recital. For her clarinet recital, Whetzel will perform the first movement, "Allegro" from "Sonata in B Flat Major" by Franze Danzi. She also will play two movements, "Aria larghetto" and "Allegro affettusoso," from Duet Number Two, WoO 27 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Whetzel's recital will conclude with four movements from "Sonata No. 1 F Minor, Op. 120" by Johannes Brahms. The movements are "Allegro appassionato," "Andante un poco Adagio," "Allegretto grazioso" and "Vivace." For his alto saxophone recital, Stuart will perform "Aria" by Jacques Ibert, "Concerto for Alto Saxophone" by Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov and "Diversion" by Bernard Heiden. At Bridgewater, both musicians study under David Snively, adjunct instructor of music. Dr. Larry Taylor, assistant professor of music, will serve as piano accompanist for the evening. Whetzel is the daughter of Barbara Whetzel of McGaheysville, Va., and Scott Whetzel of Harrisonburg, Va. At Bridgewater, she is the director and clarinetist for a woodwind quintet. She also is a member of Eagle Productions, a group that plans activities on campus. Stuart is the son of James Stuart of Staunton. He is a member of the Jazz Band and performs with funk, jazz and rock groups in the Shenandoah Valley. He also gives private saxophone lessons. Both musicians are members of the Symphonic Band and the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater's scholastic honor society. Both are also members of the campus chapter of Music Educators National Conference, of which Whetzel serves as president. The recital is free and open to the public. | ||
