BC Jazz Ensemble Presents 'Jazz Evolution' Nov. 6

The Bridgewater College Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.
The concert, “Jazz Evolution,” will be directed by Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College.
The program features a variety of music showcasing Bridgewater College students.
The concert includes Tiger Rag by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, in the New Orleans Dixieland style of the 1920s; Yardbird Suite by Charlie Parker, in the 1940s New York City bebop style; Moanin’ by Bobby Timmons and made famous by hard bop drummer Art Blakey; La Fiesta by Chick Corea, representing the afro-Cuban style of the 1970s; and Tribute to Miles, a medley of works by Miles Davis that span the spectrum of jazz.
Non-traditional jazz instruments have been added to this concert and feature Cathryn Levander, a senior political science major with a minor in music, from New Albany, Ohio, on flute; Sara Jean Forren, a senior music major from Chesapeake, Va., on clarinet; and Kathryn Schau, a sophomore history and political science major from Smithfield, Va., on horn.
The concert is free and open to the public.
