The movie Philadelphia, starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, will be shown at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Released in 1993, Philadelphia, written by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Jonathan Demme, is the story of lawyer Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) who hides his homosexuality and HIV status at a powerful Philadelphia law firm fearing it would compromise his career.

His secret is exposed when a colleague spots the illness’s telltale lesions. Fired shortly afterwards, Beckett resolves to sue for discrimination, teaming up with Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), the only lawyer willing to help.

The film, sponsored by Bridgewater College’s Center for Diversity Education and Advocacy, is free and open to the public.
