Dr. Michael Casson, director of the University Center for Economic Development and International Trade (UCEDIT) will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College. The topic of his talk is "Diversity and Inclusion: A Pathway, Not a Destination, Towards Community Empowerment and Economic Development."

The UCEDIT – based in Delaware State University’s College of Business – takes a long-term strategic view of economic forces and focuses on providing state and local governments and organizations with economic information and analysis.

In 2014, the U.S. Commerce Economic Development Administration awarded the UCEDIT a three-year $500,000 grant to implement a geographic information system to map the regional assets of the Virgin Islands. Casson, an associate professor of economics at Delaware State, served as principal investigator of the project.

Casson has published a book for elementary-school children to begin their educations in financial literacy. The book, Enwan the Entrepreneur: Enwan’s First $avings Account, teaches the value of saving money and introduces youth to the concepts of bank accounts and earning interest.
