Joseph Hays and Cathryn Levander to Present Recital April 21

Joseph Jerome Hays and Cathryn Levander will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For his junior clarinet recital, Hays will perform “Concerto No. 3 in B-flat” with clarinet solo by Carl Stamitz and “Phantasiestüke” by Robert Schumann.
Hays, an information systems management and music double major, is the son of Brett and Patricia Hays of Verona, Va. Hays is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Pep Band and reBELLion handbell choir.
Hays studies clarinet under David Snively, adjunct instructor of music. He will be accompanied on piano by Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music.
For her senior flute recital, Levander will perform “Sonata in A Minor” by Michel Blavet and “Three American Miniatures” by John Rutter.
For the Blavet piece, she will be accompanied on piano by Taylor. Sara Jean Forren, a senior music major from Chesapeake, Va., will accompany on the clarinet for the Rutter work.
Levander, a political science major with a minor in music, is the daughter of Carl and Sallie Levander of New Albany, Ohio. She is a member of the Symphonic Band and serves as woodwind leader for the Pep Band.
Levander studies flute under Elizabeth Brightbill, adjunct instructor of music.
The recital is free and open to the public.
