Courtney Hawkins Receives 2017 Art Scholarship

Courtney Hawkins received the 2017 Paul M. and Betty Kline Student Art Scholarship presented at the college’s award ceremony.
Hawkins, a senior art and philosophy and religion double major, is the daughter of Eric and Jennifer Hawkins of Collinsville, Va. Hawkins is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society, and is pledgemaster of the campus chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service honor society. She is a member of the college’s Flory Honors Program.
Hawkins is a member of the Spiritual Life Board and serves as secretary of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
The Paul M. and Betty Kline Student Art Scholarship is valued at $2,800 for the 2017-18 academic year. The award is presented to a junior or senior art major who has demonstrated significant growth and accomplishment in the study and production of visual art.
Paul, who passed away in 2006, and Betty Kline are Bridgewater College graduates. He retired as professor of art in 1997 after 38 years on the faculty. She formerly served at the college as dean of women and psychology instructor.
