  • Killian named to All-ODAC first team - 11/25/2008

  • Chris KillianBridgewater College senior Chris Killian was named to the All-ODAC First Team Defense in voting by the conference coaches.

    Killian ranked second on the BC team in tackles with 59 and tackles for loss with 8.5.

    Three Eagles were recognized on the All-ODAC Second Team. Linebacker T.J. Montague and tackle Austin Icaza were honored on defense while center Drew Kirkner was named to the second-team offense.

    Montague led the Eagles in tackles with 79 and tackles for loss with 9.5. He also intercepted three passes. Icaza was in on 41 tackles and finished with 3.5 quarterback sacks. Kirkner anchored the BC offensive line from the center position.

    Wide receiver Tyler Beiler and defensive back Brandon Mitchell received honorable mention. Beiler caught 39 passes for 770 yards. Mitchell was in on 56 tackles and led the Eagles with eight passes defended. [All-ODAC Football Team]
  • Eagles end season with 37-26 - 11/15/2008

  • David ArgaudBridgewater capped its 2008 season on a winning note with a 37-26 victory Saturday afternoon at Catholic University.

    The Eagles victory, couple with Saturday’s other results, left the conference with four teams – Catholic, Emory & Henry, Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon – tied atop the ODAC standings with a 4-2 record. The Eagles finish 3-3.

    The teams traded scores in the first half with the Eagles holding a 20-13 lead at the break.

    David Argaud put the Eagles on the board with a 9-yard run and William Davis added the PAT for a 7-0 BC lead.

    Catholic countered with a 28-yard scoring pass from Keith Ricca to Ryan McManus, but the Cardinals missed the extra point.

    The Eagles regained the lead when Chris Tichacek hauled in a 5-yard scoring pass from Hagan Driskell. BC missed the extra point to led 13-6.

    After Catholic tied the score on another Ricca TD pass, Bridgewater’s Darrin McKenzie scored on a 3-yard run and Davis added the extra point to put the Eagles on top, 20-13.

    The Eagles padded the lead midway through the third quarter when Driskell connected with Tyler Beiler with a 17-yard scoring pass. Davis’ PAT made the score 27-13. After Catholic scored on Stevie Hendley’s 2-yard run, McKenzie scored his second TD, this one a 2-yard run to give the Eagles a 34-20 lead.

    The Eagles rushed for 274 yards, led by Argaud’s 132 yards on 14 carries. McKenzie added 68 yards on 13 carries. Driskell finished 16-of-23 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.

    The Bridgewater defense held the high-powered Catholic offense to just 266 total yards. [Boxscore]
  • Eagles fall to Randolph-Macon, 40-18 - 11/08/2008

  • David ArgaudRandolph-Macon quarterback Austin Faulkner passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more Saturday afternoon to lead the Yellow Jackdets to a 40-18 victory over the Bridgewater College Eagles.

    Randolph-Macon dominated the first half, limiting the Eagles to just 71 yards total offense and three first downs.

    The Yellow Jackets got on the board when quarterback Austin Faulkner scrambled for a 34-yard TD. The PAT was blocked.

    The hosts made it 12-0 when Faulkner hit Earl Peoples with a 17-yard scoring strike. The PAT once again failed.

    The Yellow Jackets increased the lead when Faulkner hit Stuart May with a 24-yard TD pass with 8:23 left in the third quarter. Scoot Shope added the PAT for a 19-0 lead.

    The Eagles got on the board on the ensuing possession when David Argaud scored on a 30-yard run, but the Yellow Jackets answered when Faulkner and May connected again, this time with 42 seconds left in the third quarter. May also caught the two-point conversion pass, giving R-MC a 27-6 lead.

    Faulkner ran for his second touchdown early in the fourth quarter and Shope’s PAT gave the Yellow Jackets a 34-6 advantage.

    Argaud added his second scoring run, this one a 16-yarder midway through the final quarter, making the score 34-12.

    After another Yellow Jackets’ score, Argaud scored his third TD on a 16-yard pass from Hagen Driskell.

    The Eagles are now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the ODAC. Bridgewater will wrap up its regular season Saturday with a game at Catholic. [Boxscore]
  • Mitchell named ODAC defensive player of the week - 11/02/2008

  • Brandon MitchellBridgewater College safety Brandon Mitchell has been named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in the victory over Washington and Lee.

    Mitchell finished the game with 10 tackles, six unassisted, and he also broke up four passes.
  • Eagles defeat W&L, 32-19 - 11/01/2008

  • Brandon MitchellBridgewater College rolled up 424 yards of total offense, its most productive game of the season, to defeat the Washington & Lee Generals, 32-19, in ODAC football action Saturday afternoon.

    The Eagles rushed for 218 yards with Darrin McKenzie leading the way with 53 yards on six carries. David Argaud added 48 yards on 11 carries, followed by Anthony Carter with 37 yards on seven carries and fullback Ryan Richmond with three carries for 28 yards.

    BC’s two-quarterback system also worked will. Vince Reese passed for 50 yards on a 5-for-9 effort and rushed for 24 more. Hagen Driskell completed 9-of-16 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. Rudy Jackson caught four balls for 46 yards and Tyler Beiler had three receptions for 66 yards.

    The Eagles scored first on a 2-yard run by Argaud and William Davis added the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 2:53 left in the first quarter. W&L answered with a 41-yard TD pass from Charlie Westfal to David Bacaj. The Generals missed the PAT.

    Carter scored on a 2-yard run midway through the second quarter and the Eagles faked the PAT kick and holder Patrick Smoot ran for the two-point conversion, giving BC a 15-6 lead.

    Smoot caught a 3-yard TD pass from Driskell with 18 seconds left in the half and Davis tacked on the PAT to give the Eagles a 22-6 lead at the half.

    BC padded its lead in the third quarter when McKenzie danced into the end zone from 8 yards out. Davis again hit the PAT for a 29-6 Eagles lead.

    Davis finished off the BC scoring when he made it 32-6 with a 25-yard field goal with 10:14 left in the game. The Generals added two TDs in the fourth quarter, making the final score 32-19. Stuart Sitterson scored on a 1-yard run and Patrick Conley hauled in a 23-yard pass from Parker Finely to complete the scoring.

    Brandon Mitchell and T.J. Montague led the defense with 10 tackles each. Richmond also had four pass break-ups. Chris Killian tallied eight tackles and forced a fumble and Seth Little finished with five tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

    The BC defense bottled up Sitterson for most of the game. The senior back, who came into the game averaging more than 100 rushing yards per contest, was limited to 76 yards on 20 carries.

    Bridgewater is now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC. W&L drops to 4-4, 1-4 in the ODAC.

    The Eagles travel to Randolph-Macon on Saturday to face the Yellow Jackets. Game time is 1 p.m. [Boxscore]
