BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In polling conducted by Sporting News magazine, the Bridgewater Eagles were selected as the 17th-best squad in Division III football.
Bridgewater’s 17th-place ranking speaks volumes of the program’s recent success, even on the heels of a 4-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the ODAC. The Eagles open up the season on September 5, when the Averett Cougars visit Jopson Field at 1:00 p.m.
At the top of the Sporting News poll is the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Warhawks have made the trip to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the past four seasons and have compiled a 55-5 mark during the four year run. Perennial Division III power Mount Union (Ohio) took home the runner-up post.
Also, second-year linebackers coach Ben Taylor was featured in today’s edition of the Harrisonburg Daily News Record.

![]() ![]() In preparation for the 2009 football season head coach Michael Clark has announced the elected team captains for the Bridgewater College Eagles fall football campaign.Senior offensive center Drew Kirkner, Senior running back David Arguad, and junior defensive back Brandon Mitchell were chosen by a vote of their teammates at the conclusion of spring drills. “We are returning to a tradition of electing captains prior to the start of the season again,” coach Clark commented. “I felt in the junior and senior class we had a broad band of leadership that was deserving. We will go back to adding game captains on a week to week basis and electing a fourth member at season’s end,” Clark added. “Quality leadership will need to go beyond these three, but I think their teammates have made quality choices here,” coach Clark concluded. The Eagles open their 2009 season at home on Sept. 5 against Averett University. |
Offseason priority No. 1 for the Bridgewater College football team was very basic: fitness. If quarterback Hagan Driskell, wide receiver Rudy Jackson and offensive lineman Louis Sanchez are correct, the Eagles have achieved that goal - each said the work in the weight room has paid off.Proof, perhaps, is in their physiques. Driskell looks leaner. Jackson has a few more muscles wrapped around his greyhound-like frame, and Sanchez's chest, legs and arms are bulkier.
