The 1880 Society
The 1880 Society was inspired by the ideals of Daniel Flory, who founded Bridgewater College in 1880 by offering a "hearty welcome to all seeking knowledge." Back then, tuition was $3.00 per month and board was $10.00. Wouldn't it be wonderful if that were the case today?
Significant resources are necessary to provide the excellent liberal arts education for which Bridgewater College is known. To ensure that Bridgewater continues to offer that "hearty welcome" to all who wish to attend, we need to provide scholarships for qualified students.
The 1880 Society is the College's premier giving recognition society. It is comprised of a select group of donors who make gifts of $1,000 or more to the College. The society's primary role is to support the College in its mission to educate and develop the whole person. All donors, regardless of gift designation, are recognized at the appropriate gift level.
Unrestricted gifts at the 1880 Society levels support the Bridgewater Fund, an annual revenue source that enables the College to direct money to the greatest needs of the institution. Many of these gifts provide scholarship support which allow worthy students to attend Bridgewater College.
The Bridgewater College community is extremely grateful for the support received from our alumni, parents and friends. Members of the 1880 Society continue a generous tradition of giving each year. Your gift gives our students the potential to become leaders, living ethical, healthy, useful and fulfilling lives with a strong sense of personal accountability and civic responsibility.
