BC Seniors Honored for Excellence in Foreign Languages

Bridgewater College seniors Carmen Moyer and Maisaa Elias Rantisi were presented the Raymond N. Andes Awards at the annual Academic Awards Convocation on May 1.

The awards, which honor a former chair of the college’s foreign languages department, are presented annually to the top seniors majoring in Spanish and French in the department of foreign languages. The late Dr. Andes, a 1940 graduate of Bridgewater College, taught French from 1946 until he retired in 1983.

Moyer, who was presented the Spanish award, received a certificate, a collection of poems, Veinte Peomas de Amor y Una Canción de Desesperada y Cien Sonetos de Amor, by Pablo Neruda, and Mastering Spanish Medical Vocabulary: A Thematic Approach.

Moyer, a health and exercise science major with a minor in Spanish, who completed her studies at Bridgewater in December 2011, is the daughter of Scott and Carol Moyer of Moneta, Va.

Rantisi, who was presented the French award, received a certificate and Collins French Resource Collection: Grammar, Dictionary, Thesaurus and Idioms.

Rantisi, a communication studies and French double major, is from Ramallah, Palestine, Israel.
