The Bridgewater College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music, will present a concert, “Legends,” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.
The program features works by jazz legends Chick Corea, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Thelonious Monk and Lee Morgan.
Featured soloists are graduating seniors Taylor Cox on tenor saxophone, Miranda L. Fitzgerald on baritone saxophone and Will Gaulden on guitar.
Cox, a physics major with minors in mathematics and music, is from Forest, Va., Fitzgerald, a music major, is from Verona, Va., and Gaulden, an applied physics major with a minor in mathematics, is from Spout Spring, Va.
Other soloists include Philip Meador on alto saxophone, Zachary Squires on trumpet, Phillip Stone on trombone, Matthew Wampler on piano, Jonathon Wilson on drums and John D. Zook on trumpet.
Meador, a sophomore communication studies major with a minor in music, is from Roanoke, Va. Squires, a sophomore computer science major, is from Winchester, Va. Stone, a junior biology major, is from Linville, Va. Wampler, a junior physics and mathematics major with a minor in music, is from Nokesville, Va. Wilson, a senior music major, is from Salem, Va. Zook, a junior political science major with a minor in cultural studies, is from Philadelphia, Pa.
The concert is free and open to the public.
