Bethanie Glover and Kimberly Ottman to Give Senior Recital April 7
Bridgewater College senior music majors Bethanie Glover of Waynesboro, Va., and Kimberly Ottman of Harrisonburg, Va., will present a voice recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For her soprano recital, Glover will perform “The World Feels Dusty,” “Going to Heaven!” and “The Chariot” from Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson by Aaron Copland. She also will sing three German lieder, “Die Vögel” and “Der Jüngling an der Quelle” by Franz Schubert and “Mein Schöner Stern!” by Robert Schumann.
Glover will also perform two Italian arias, “Piangerò la Sorte Mia” from Giulio Cesare by G.F. Handel and “Quando Me’n Vo” from La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini.
For her mezzo-soprano recital, Ottman will perform “Pur dicesti” by Antonio Lotti and “Non so più cosa son” from The Marriage of Figaro by W.A. Mozart. She will also sing three songs by Samuel Barber, “Sure on this Shining Night,” “Secrets of the Old” and “A Nun Takes the Veil.”
Ottman will also perform “Si mes vers avaient des ailes,” “A Chloris” and “Infidélité” by Reynaldo Hahn.
A special feature of the recital will be a duet by Glover and Ottman of “Evening Prayer” from Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck.
Both musicians study voice under Shannon Kiser and will be accompanied on piano by Lacey Johnson. Kiser and Johnson are adjunct instructors in music at Bridgewater College.
Both Glover and Ottman are members of the Chorale, the Concert Choir, the Oratorio Choir and the Pep Band. Glover is co-director of the Handbell Choir and is a member of a guitar ensemble.
