Morgan Brooking and Steven Wolfe to Give Senior Recital
Bridgewater College seniors Morgan N. Brooking of Charlottesville, Va., and Steven Wolfe of Smithsburg, Md., will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For her clarinet recital, Brooking will perform “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano” by Leonard Berstein, “Grand duo concertant” by Carl Maria von Weber and “Abime des oiseaux,” the third movement of Quatour Pour La Fin Du Temps by Olivier Messiaen.
The recital also includes Brooking’s honors project presentation on Messiaen’s Quatour Pour La Fin Du Temps .Messiaen composed this piece while he was a prisoner in a German prisoner of war camp during World War II. She will discuss the historical, theoretical and religious aspects of the work.
At Bridgewater, Brooking studies clarinet under David Snively, adjunct instructor of music. Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music at Bridgewater, will accompany her on the piano.
Brooking is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and the Pep Band.
For his classical guitar recital, Wolfe will perform a suite, “Andantino,” “Waltz” and “Andante” by Matteo Carcassi. He will play two pieces by J.S. Bach, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “Bouree.” Wolfe’s recital also includes Luis de Milán’s “Pavanas I” from 6 Pavanas and “Carnavalito” by Jóse Luis Merlin.
At Bridgewater, Wolfe studies classical guitar under Richard Adams, adjunct instructor in music. He is a member of a guitar ensemble and is completing his student teaching at Verona Elementary School.
