Bridgewater College student Connor Fairburn received the Esther Mae Wilson Petcher Memorial Scholarship of $2,000 for the 2015-16 academic year.
The award is named in memory of Esther Mae Wilson Petcher, a member of the Bridgewater class of 1944 and a former missionary to Nigeria. The grant is given each year to a rising senior in good academic standing who demonstrates leadership in campus activities with emphasis on religious life.
Fairburn, a junior psychology major, is the son of Scott and Kendall Fairburn of Roanoke, Va.
In the fall of 2015, Fairburn will serve as a leadership team member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also is a leader for Men of God Bible study and attends Calvary Cross-Link Church in Harrisonburg, Va.
During the summer, Fairburn works at Camp Bethel in Troutville, Va. Previously he served as an adventure counselor and will be a high ropes coordinator this summer.
