Peacemaker Shane Claiborne to Speak Nov. 5

Phot of Shane Claiborne

Shane Claiborne’s adventures have taken him from the streets of Calcutta, where he worked with Mother Teresa, to an internship at Willow Creek, a mega-church in the suburbs of Chicago.

Claiborne – Bridgewater College’s Fall Spiritual Focus leader – will speak on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College. A reception will follow.

As a peacemaker, Claiborne’s journeys have taken him to some of the most troubled regions of the world, including Rwanda and the West Bank, and he’s served on peace delegations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A founder and leader of The Simple Way, a faith community in inner-city Philadelphia, Claiborne has helped establish and connect radical faith communities around the world.

Claiborne writes and travels extensively, speaking about peacemaking, social justice and Jesus. His books include Jesus for President, Red Letter Revolution, Common Prayer, Follow Me to Freedom, Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers and The Irresistible Revolution.

He was featured in the film Ordinary Radicals and co-directed the three-volume Another World Is Possible DVD series.

Claiborne’s work has appeared in Esquire, SPIN, Christianity Today and The Wall Street Journal, and he has appeared on Fox News, Al Jazeera, CNN and NPR. He’s presented academic lectures at Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Liberty and Duke universities and the University of Notre Dame.

The program is free and open to the public.
