Gabriel Fauré’s "Requiem" to Be Performed on Nov. 10
The Bridgewater College Chorale, Concert Choir and Oratorio choir will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music.
The performance is under the direction of Dr. John McCarty, assistant professor of music and director of choral music at Bridgewater College.
The concert, “Quick, We Have but a Second,” celebrates the journey of life. Bridgewater’s choral ensembles will perform music with many perspectives on existence and the passage of time.
The centerpiece of the performance is Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, a work that combines the 60-member Oratorio Choir with an orchestra of local musicians. Soloists for the Requiem are Christine Fairfield, soprano, and Shannon Kiser, baritone, both adjunct instructors in music at Bridgewater College. Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music, will serve as accompanist on organ.
The concert also includes, “Time” by Benjamin Britten, “Quick We Have but a Second” by Charles V. Stanford and “Inching Along” a traditional spiritual. Also being performed are “My Days are Gliding Swiftly” by George Root, “Even Such is Time” by Bob Chilcott and “Saints Bound for Heaven” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw.
The concert is free and open to the public.
