2014 Chemistry Awards Presented at BC
Bridgewater College’s chemistry department has recognized students for their accomplishments in chemistry and research.
The following awards were presented at the annual awards convocation: the American Chemical Society Outstanding Senior Award to Scott R. Griffin, the Chemical Rubber Company Award to Daniel Scott Feivor, and the Garland Reed Award for Excellence in Chemical Research to Ibrahim AbuNada.
Griffin, the winner of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Outstanding Senior Award, received a one-year membership in the ACS presented by the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society. Griffin, a senior chemistry and physics double major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Griffin of Fredericksburg, Va.
Feivor was presented the Chemical Rubber Company Award. The award is presented to the top student in the general chemistry classes. For his achievement, Feivor received a copy of the Chemical Rubber Company’s Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. Feivor, a sophomore biology and chemistry major with a minor in neuroscience, is the son of Kim and Barbara Feivor of Roanoke, Va.
AbuNada received the Garland Reed Project Award that recognizes the best chemistry project at the college conducted during the year and includes a $1,000 cash prize. The award is named in memory of Garland L. Reed, a 1948 Bridgewater graduate in chemistry, who had a distinguished career in the Food and Drug Administration. AbuNada, a junior chemistry major with a minor in biology, is from Laurel, Md.
