Student Senate Committees

Committee on Ethics and Integrity

Chair: Student Body President

Membership: 6 students, including Student Body President and Honor Council Chairperson

The Committee on Ethics and Integrity is responsible for reviewing ethical and integrity issues on campus and then making recommendations to Student Senate, the Council on Student Activities, or the College administration.  Primary areas for consideration are the Code of Ethics and the Honor Code, including modifications, education, implementation, enforcement, and integration into the campus community.

Finance Committee

Chair: Student Body Vice President

Membership: 6 students, including Student Body Vice President and Senate Auditor; only open to members of Senate

The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing monetary requests in excess of $200 and making recommendations concerning those requests to Student Senate.  It is also responsible for reviewing the yearly Auditor’s Report, which is to be written by the Senate Auditor and presented to Senate at its final meeting of the year.

Committee on Campus Facilities

Chair: Appointed by Student Body President

Membership: 6 students

The Committee on Campus Facilities is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations concerning the adequacy and condition of campus facilities, including food service, the bookstore, lighting, campus security, and handicapped accessibility.  Additionally, all members of the Committee on Campus Facilities serve on the Student Food Service Committee, with one member serving as the chair of that committee.

Student Senate Oversight Committee

Chair: Student Body President

Membership: 6 students, including Student Body President; only open to members of Senate, and three of those members must be seniors

The Student Senate Oversight Committee is responsible for monitoring Student Senate operations and activities.  This includes administrating Student Government elections, evaluating Student Senate procedures, making recommendations on Senate projects (such as the Christmas project), evaluating and suggesting modifications concerning Senate committees, and planning any Senate activities.  All the senior class Oversight Committee members will serve on the Electoral Board (see Article V, 1.2 of the Student Government Constitution), with other senior class Senators appointed by the Student Body President to fill the required 5 seats.

This committee is also responsible for determining the content and ensuring the publication of the Student Senate Information and Procedures Manual.  It is envisioned that it will include, but not be limited to, the Student Government constitution, a list and description of committees, responsibilities and requirements of Student Senators, and procedures for Senate meetings.  Production of the manual should be completed in the spring so that is ready for distribution by the first Student Senate meeting at the beginning of the academic year.

Committee on Student Media

Chair: Appointed by Student Body President

Membership: 6 students; no member of a student media organization may serve as a committee member

The Committee on Student Media is responsible for monitoring the quality and content of all student media (Veritas, Ripples, WGMB, etc.), working in a cooperative nature with the staff of each organization.  In the spring of the year, the Committee will meet with the advisors of the media organizations and in consultation make recommendations to Student Senate concerning the student leadership of each group for the next year.

Clubs and Organizations Review Committee

Chair: Student Body Vice President

Membership: 4 students; only open to members of Senate

The Clubs and Organizations Review Committee is responsible for reviewing all proposals for new clubs before they are brought before Senate, suggesting constitution changes to the club, and making a recommendation to Senate.  Additionally, the committee will communicate with each club on campus at least once each academic year to ensure that they are meeting and positively contributing to student life.
