Service-Learning Requirements
10 hours per year
As a BC student, you are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of service-learning for each year you are enrolled. Remember, the 10 hours required each year is just a starting point – a minimum! Freshmen will complete at least five hours during fall semester.
Real human/community needs
Service must address real human/community needs as they are defined by those with the needs or by agencies that assist those individuals.
Non-profit agency/organization
Service must be provided to a non-profit agency/organization.
Without payment
Service must be provided without payment.
Documented
At least 10 hours of service experience must be documented on the PDP service-learning documentation form.
Critical Reflection
Service will be followed by structured critical reflection in the PDP personal reflective essay.
Transfer students
Accumulate five hours of service-learning for each semester you enroll at Bridgewater.
Service related to educational/career goals
Providing service related to educational and/or career goals is strongly encouraged.
Documented practical experience + good citizenship = a strategic advantage in the highly competitive job and graduate school markets!
