Stressed Students: How You Can Help
Our college community is becoming increasingly aware of the amounts of stress our students are experiencing and its negative impact on their health and academic performance.
To address this concern, we have adopted an online training simulation that will assist faculty to better identify and refer these students to support services on campus. Bridgewater College highly recommends that you take this 45 minute course, which has already been successfully rolled-out at over 150 colleges. Some faculty members are already completing the training on our campus.
Lori Gano Overway, Associate Professor in the Health and Human Sciences Department had this to say about the training,
“I liked the fact that I could navigate through the scenario choosing the path of the conversation which helped me refine how I would handle distressed students. I also liked hearing the key phrases to consider using with each distressed student. It was well worth the time to complete and a good reminder about not making assumptions about students and leading with empathy and compassion.”
