Zambia Knowledge Bank (ZANOBA) Libraries: Nkhanga Branch is in the process of being built. The village library will be located in the North-Western part of Lundazi District in the Eastern Province of Zambia in Chief Magodi’s area in Southern Africa. Three planning meetings were held during June and July 2006 at Mr. Duncan Banda’s house. FUNDRAISING: The estimated costs for the library construction is $10,000.00 or Ten Thousand United States Dollars or 35 Million Zambian Kwacha. This is the fundraising goal that has to be reached by or before the target date of April 30th 2007. As of February 20, 2007, $450.00 has been raised toward the goal. LIBRARY OPENING: The library will be the size of two classroom blocks. The library will open in 2007. ZANOBA hopes to invite local as well as national and international leaders and Very Important People (VIPs) to the official opening ceremony.
BOOK DONATIONS: The Book Selection Sub-Committee with the help of the Research and Archives Sub-Committee will administer a questionnaire to samples of people in the community to determine what kinds of books people want and would read in the library. The responses to this questionnaire will determine what kinds of books will be sent to the library. The area has students and children ranging from first grade to 12th grade, teachers, medical personnel, farmers, agricultural assistants, Pastors and members of religious congregations, young businessmen and women.
PERSONNEL: The running of the library will be done on a volunteer and part time basis since the Village library will not have adequate resources to have full time paid personnel. Students from the schools, teachers, and other volunteers will take care of the everyday running of the library. The library will need an individual to establish a very simple cataloguing system for the books in May and June 2007 before the opening of the library.
