Addition discussion of political rhetoric: Obama's victory speech; McCain's concession. Discussion of reading.

Assignment for 11/18:
Continue writing Essay of Definition.  For Final Portfolio:  Select a topic you are passionate about.  Write a letter intended to bring about change in people's thinking or actions, making use of the persuasive techniques and rhetorical skills we have been reading about and discussing.

Week 12

Essay of Definition due. 
Technical writing assignment (due in Final Portfolio). Presenting visual information. Discussion of reading.
Assignment for 11/20: Read Chapters 1-3 of these
guidelines for technical writing (being selectively about the specifics of the last part of Chapter 3) and excerpt from Writing for the Information Age by Bruce Ross-Larson. Work on technical writing assignment.

Read excerpt from Writing as a Way of Healing: How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives by Louise DeSalvo.

Final Exam Period, Tuesday, 12/9/08, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Final Portfolio due. In-class essay.
