The second semester of Effective Writing at Bridgewater College focuses on critical thinking and research-based writing about the humanities. We will read a variety of literary texts and write about them, making use of some critical texts as well. The current term's theme is family relationships.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd [optional--may substitute short stories by agreement]
A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean
Fences by August Wilson
A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines
Rules For Writers, 6th edition, by Diana Hacker

Meeting Time & Place: We will meet Monday through Friday 9:30-10:50. Our initial meeting will be in Bowman 316, but most meetings after the first day will be in Bowman 301 or 310.
