Student Research

Student research activities come out of the Honors Program, Special Topics and Independent Study. While these efforts could involve my own interests, this need not be the case. Some of the student research I have been involved in over the years involve (1) using x-rays to induce mutations in fruit flies; (2) using fruit flies as the experimental organism to pursue Mendel's laws; (3) studying the chromosomes of various vascular plants; (4) studying the effect of alcohol on the livers of rats; (5) methods of seed germination in pine trees; (6) surveying the vascular flora of the North River environs of the Bridgewater Campus; (7) writing of a taxonomic key for the campus flora; (8) using thin layer chromatography to study the eye color locus of the fruit fly; (9) cultivation of mushrooms from spores; and (10) pollination studies in various flowering plants. Student research is encouraged during the junior and senior years.
