Richard Bowman at the SRC

Opening his circular dichroism (CD) experiment to the light from the ultraviolet beam coming from the synchrotron, Bowman watches to see that the instruments controlling the equipment are working properly. The CD experiment is connected to the electron ring producing synchrotron light at the Synchrotron Radiation Center, Madison, Wisconsin, USA. (March 2002)

Bowman, in addition to being professor of physics, is also the director of academic computing at Bridgewater College. In this role, he works with faculty to promote effective use of educational technology in the classes at Bridgewater.   • Richard Bowman was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA on 13 December 1948.
  • He married Elsie Hamilton on 20 June 1970.
  • Their children are: R. Todd, married to Maria; Jonathan; Jennifer, married to Matt, and Heidi (all young adults).
  • After marriage they lived in: Belize, Central America (3 years); Kent, Ohio, USA (1 year); Corvallis, Oregon (4 years); Los Angeles area, California (1 year); Newton, Kansas (1 year); Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania (6 years); and Harrisonburg, Virginia (since 1986).
