Robinson Crusoe

music written by Robert Mellin and Gian-Piero Reverberi, arranged and performed by David West. Used by permission.

Discussion questions:

  1. What importance does Crusoe place on his father's words?
  2. Defoe seems to waver between fate and divine action as the cause of Crusoe's situation; how does he reconcile these viewpoints?
  3. What elements does Crusoe consider religious that today we would call cultural?
  4. Besides the changes in language in nearly 3 centuries, what differences in novel conventions do you find? Why might these be important to consider?
