Nathan Good and Elizabeth Gaver were recognized for excellence by the Department of Communication Studies and Theatre at Bridgewater College.

Good received the Outstanding Student Award, presented to an outstanding graduating senior in the communication, technology and culture major and is based on academic performance, leadership, excellence in writing, and internship and work experience.

Good, a senior Spanish and communication, technology and culture double major from Grottoes, Va., is editor-in-chief of BC Voice, a student-run media organization on campus. He is also a member of the Philomathes Society and Lambda Pi Eta, an honor society of the National Communication Association.

During his time at BC, he completed a research project titled “Professional Email Requests: A Pragmalinguistic Comparison of Formality between American English, Argentine Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese” under the direction of Department Chair of Communication Studies and Theatre Dr. Melanie Laliker.

After graduation, Good intends to work in a mentoring position with the local Spanish-speaking community. He also plans to pursue graduate programs in the following academic year.

Gaver received the Outstanding Theatre Artist Award which is presented to the student who exhibits exceptional accomplishment in theatrical performance, production and scholarship.

Gaver is a senior global studies and history and political science double major from Hagerstown, Md. She is a member of the Philomathes Society, Pi Sigma Alpha, a national political science honor society; Alpha Psi Omega, a national theatre honor society; Alpha Chi, a national college scholarship honor society; and Phi Alpha Theta, a national honorary society that recognizes outstanding students of history. She is also a member of Pinion Players, a student-run theatre organization, and Women at Work, a group that focuses on raising awareness of and improving issues that affect women.

In high school, Gaver never participated in theater but always had the desire to perform. She first auditioned for BC’s production of Neil Simon’s Rumors and since then has taken part in theater every semester at Bridgewater College.

During her time at BC, she completed an honors project titled “Gender and Contentious Politics: Women’s Effect on the Success of Maximalist Protests.”

After graduation, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in international relations and partake in theatrical plays in her community.
