Alumni Spotlight | Andrew Summers ’16
Andrew Summers ’16
“The history professors at Bridgewater really made history come alive for me, and I strive to have that same influence with my students,” Andrew Summers ’16 said of his Bridgewater College experience. Andrew is beginning his second year as a history teacher at Harrisonburg High School, and he continues to reflect on the ways he was inspired during his time at Bridgewater.
He made the decision to come to Bridgewater based on the community he felt, and he cherishes the relationships he developed over the four years he spent at the College. “The relationships I created with professors and staff are what I think will have the longest impact on me. What they taught me outside of the classroom has really stuck with me,” he said.
As a student seeking secondary licensure to teach in grades 6-12, Andrew also completed multiple field experiences and student teaching through the College’s Teacher Education Program. This experience not only gave him valuable experience in the classroom, but also provided him with the connections in the local school systems that he would need as he searched for his first job.
Andrew is enthusiastic about coming back to BC and is excited to attend Homecoming, reconnect with faculty and classmates, and represent his class on the BC Alumni Association Board of Directors, which he joined this summer.
