Bridgewater College’s Symphonic Band will present “An American Salute,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

The concert, under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music at Bridgewater College, features pieces that highlight various aspects of American history.

The program will open with “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa. “Lincoln Portrait” by Aaron Copland features Dr. John McCarty, assistant professor of music at Bridgewater College, as the narrator of excerpts of President Abraham Lincoln’s great documents, including the Gettysburg Address. “Elegy for a Young American,” composed by Ronald Lo Presti in 1967, is a tribute to the memory of President John F. Kennedy. George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris,” composed in 1928, was inspired by his time spent in Paris.

The concert is free and open to the public.
