Bridgewater College's Alumni Association Awards 2017-18 Scholarships

The Bridgewater College Alumni Association recognized a number of students in the campus community at the annual college awards ceremony.
The $1,500 Alumni Legacy Scholarships are presented to rising juniors or seniors whose parent(s) graduated from Bridgewater College. Receiving Alumni Legacy Scholarships for 2017-18 are:
Abby Brubaker, a senior liberal studies major, is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Brubaker of Rocky Mount, Va.;
Caroline S. Caplen, a senior music major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Caplen of Dulles, Va.;
Audrey Ferguson, a junior athletic training major, is the daughter of Robert and Cindy Ferguson of Lynchburg, Va.;
Kate Flora, a junior English major, is the daughter of Steve and Pam Flora of Churchville, Va.;
Lauren Flora, a junior art major, is the daughter of Dawn Flora of Bridgewater, Va.; and
Jake Maynard, a junior history major, is the son of Darren and Kathy Maynard of Crozet, Va.
The Citizenship Award is presented annually to a senior who has demonstrated citizenship and made contributions within the college community.
Cam Thurston, a senior English major, is the recipient of this year’s Citizenship Award. He is the son of Robert Thurston and Acquenetta Thurston of College Park, Md.
Thurston is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society. He has served as a tutor in the college’s Writing Center for two years and as a resident advisor for three years. He was a member of the men’s basketball team for three years.
The Dr. Jacob S. Huffman Outstanding Student Leadership Award is presented annually to a senior to support him or her as they embark on a career, either in the workforce or in the pursuit of graduate studies.
Josh Bollinger, a senior chemistry major and the son of Glenn and Debbie Bollinger of Bridgewater, Va., received the Dr. Jacob S. Huffman Outstanding Student Leadership Award.
Bollinger is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society; Alpha Chi, a national scholastic honor society; and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. He is a member of the Student Senate and serves on the leadership team for the Brethren Student Movement.
Bollinger graduated on May 20. He has accepted a chemistry teaching position at Fort Defiance High School beginning in the fall.
