  • Hartman sets new record in heptathlon - 05/11/2008

  • hartmanBridgewater College sophomore Courtney Hartman set a new BC record in the heptathlon this weekend at Generals Combined Event Challenge hosted by Washington & Lee.

    Hartman finished the two-day, seven-event competition with 4,380 points.

    Hartman also improved her point total as a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III meet. This weekend's effort moves Hartman into the Top 10 in Division III in the event.
  • Rhodes meets NCAA provisional mark - 05/10/2008

  • ODACtf Bridgewater College freshman Christina Rhodes met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the pole vault Saturday at Christopher Newport.

    Rhodes set a new BC record in the pole vault as she cleared 3.51 meters (11 feet, 6.25 inches).

    Jill Wattai placed second in the 200 with a time of 25.51 seconds.

    For the men, Melvin Queen placed fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.83 and Tony Konate placed third in the 200 with a time of 22.11. Stanley Peyton placed second in the 800 with a time of 1:55.24 and Nathan Turner won the shot put with a throw of 17.14 meters.
  • Smith places fifth in IHSA National Show - 05/09/2008

  • Cary Smith Bridgewater College's Cary Smith placed fifth Friday at the IHSA National Show in Los Angeles.

    Clark finished fifth in a class of 10 riders in the Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation class.

    Kristin Putnam of St. Lawrence University (NY) placed first in the class.

    Earlier at the national show, BC's Lindsay Clark placed third in Open Equitation Over Fences.
  • Clark places third at IHSA National Show - 05/09/2008

  • Lindsay ClarkBridgewater College sophomore Lindsay Clark placed third at the IHSA National Show in Los Angeles.

    Clark finished third in a class of 10 riders in the Open Equitation Over Fences.

    Sarah Spainhour of Clemson University placed first in the class and UCLA rider Savannah Cook finished second.

    Bridgewater's Cary Smith will compete today in Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation.
  • Elkins earns baseball academic honor - 05/08/2008

  • Drew ElkinsBridgewater College's Drew Elkins has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 College Division baseball second team.

    Elkins is a sophomore, athletic training major from Lynchburg, Va.

    Elkins, a second-team All-ODAC selection at first base, hit for a .343 average. He had 32 RBIs and committed just two errors at first base. He also made 13 appearances on the mound and finished with a 1-0 record and a 4.96 ERA.
