The Bridgewater College Department of Music is pleased to announce the following performances this spring. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Symphonic Band Concert
Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m.
Cole Hall
BC’s Symphonic Band is a large ensemble that programs a diversity of musical styles and historical periods. Under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, director of instrumental music, the concert will feature “First Suite in Eb” by Gustav Holst, “Entry March of the Boyars” by Johan Halvorsen, “Strange Humors” by John Mackey, “Illumination” by David Maslanka and “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy. The concert will also feature two student conductors: junior music education major Anna Williams and senior music major Patrick Coleman.                
Spring Choral Concert: “For the Beauty of the Earth”
Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
Carter Center for Worship and Music
BC’s three choral ensembles—Concert Choir, Chorale and Treble Choir—will showcase the range and vitality of choral music at Bridgewater College. Under the direction of Dr. Georgia Newlin, adjunct instructor of music, and Dr. Ryan E. Keebaugh, director of choral music, the concert will include works by Whitacre, Averitt, Jennings, Rutter, Toch, Jenkins and Keebaugh, among others. The performance will also feature sophomore Cole Hertzler as a student conductor highlighting Bridgewater’s emphasis on experiential learning and student leadership in the arts.
Jazz Band Concert
Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
Cole Hall
The spring jazz concert will feature the BC Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Christine Carrillo, director of instrumental music. The concert will feature various musical styles including swing, funk, rock and Latin samba. Repertoire will include “Autumn Leaves,” “The Woogie,” “Crunchy Frog,” “After the Rain,” “The Chicken” and “Coconut Champagne.”
Chamber Music Concert
Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.
Carter Center for Worship and Music
This evening of Chamber Music will feature BC’s percussion ensembles, flute choir, clarinet choir, saxophone ensemble, chamber strings, guitar ensemble, trumpet ensemble, tuba/euphonium ensemble and more!
