Two Bridgewater College seniors were recognized for excellence in computer science and mathematics.

The department of mathematics and computer science presented the awards to Erika Clary of Brunswick, Md., as the outstanding senior in mathematics, and Arun Bhandari of Harrisonburg, Va., for computer science.

Clary, the daughter of George and Danielle Clary, is a member of the Philomathes Scholastic Honor Society, which recognizes students, faculty and alumni who have achieved unusual distinction in the pursuit of knowledge; Alpha Chi, a national college scholarship honor society; Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society; Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society; and the college’s Flory Honors Program. She has also been a member of the Brethren Student Movement, Interdistrict Youth Cabinet and Outspoken, the chapel band.

She completed an honors project in the fall of 2020 with Dr. Verne Leinigner, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science and Department Chair, titled, “Proving Pairwise Intransitivity in Sets of Dice.”

After graduation, Clary will be relocating to Elgin, Ill., to serve as the Church of the Brethren National Youth Conference Coordinator for 2022. Following that, she plans to attend graduate school.

Bhandari, an international and transfer student, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society that recognizes the academic achievement of college students at two-year colleges.

He plans to gain professional experience in the software development field and take that knowledge back to his country.
