Bridgewater College’s Alumni Association Awards Scholarships

The Bridgewater College Alumni Association recognized a number of students in the campus community at the annual college awards ceremony.

The Bridgewater College Alumni Association recognized a number of students in the campus community at the annual college awards ceremony on April 14.

Alumni Legacy Scholarships are presented to rising juniors or seniors whose parent(s) graduated from Bridgewater College. Receiving Alumni Legacy Scholarships for the 2019-’20 academic year are:

Stephen B. Bates, a junior business administration major with a minor in computer science, the son of Leslie and Robert Bates of Bridgewater, Va.;

Parker J. Cline, a senior applied physics major with a minor in mathematics, son of Jay and Donna Cline of Gates, N.C.;

Jacob Y. Garrison, a junior health and physical education major, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Garrison of Grottoes, Va.;

English C. Jackson, a junior liberal studies major, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jackson of Grottoes, Va.;

Miller E. Kines, a junior information systems management major with a minor in business administration, son of Landon and Jerry Anne Kines of Amissville, Va.;

Susanna J. Lertora, a junior business administration major, daughter of James and Jessica Lertora of St. Augustine, Fla.;

Benjamin B. McCrickard, a junior global studies major with a minor in German, son of Glenn and Nancy McCrickard of Westminster, Md.;

Jacob L. Miller, a junior English major with a minor in communication studies, son of Howard and Sarah Miller of Waynesboro, Va.;

Madison N. Reese, a junior global studies and Spanish double major, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Reese of Harrisonburg, Va.;

John A. Tucker, a business administration major, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Tucker of Vienna, Va.;

Kathryn L. Tucker, a junior liberal studies major with a minor in philosophy and religion, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Tucker of Vienna, Va.; and

William B. Tucker, a junior health and exercise science major, son of Terry Tucker of Harrisonburg, Va.

The Citizenship Award is presented annually to a senior who has demonstrated citizenship and made contributions within the college community.

Courtney M. Hawkins, a senior art and philosophy and religion double major with a minor in peace studies, is the recipient of this year’s Citizenship Award. She is the daughter of Eric Hawkins of Collinsville, Va.

Hawkins is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater’s scholastic honor society, and the college’s Flory Honors Program. She also is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. She serves as a digital scholarship guru, and is a member of the Spiritual Life Board and the Interfaith Board.

The Dr. Jacob S. Huffman Outstanding Student Leadership Award is presented annually to a senior to support him or her as they embark on a career, either in the workforce or in the pursuit of graduate studies.

Kimberly N. Beachy, a senior health and exercise science major and the daughter of Alvin and Karen Beachy of Timberville, Va., received the Dr. Jacob S. Huffman Outstanding Student Leadership Award.

Beachy is a member of Alpha Chi and the Flory Honors Program. She is a Student Ambassador and has served as a SOAR Mentor for the past two years. During the 2019 spring semester, Beachy completed an internship at Drayer Physical Therapy in Weyers Cave, Va.
