Bridgewater College’s Josh Patton will present a senior percussion recital, and Deonte McLean (piano) and Solomon Barnes (tenor) will give a junior recital on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Three music majors, Daniel J. Patton, Deonte A. McLean and Solomon A. Barnes, will present a recital at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Concert Hall in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.
For his senior percussion recital, Patton will perform “Blue Trane” by John Coltrane, “Tork” by James Campbell, “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock and “Rock Stock” from Seven Solo Dances VII by George Frock.
Patton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Patton of Catlett, Va. Patton is a member of the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble and the Pep Band.
Patton studies percussion under Marlon Foster, adjunct instructor in music at Bridgewater College.
Patton will be accompanied by McLean from Dunn, N.C., on piano; Kevin N. Epps, a sophomore psychology major from Chesterfield, Va., on tenor saxophone; Noah Flint, a sophomore music major from Rocky Mount, Va., on bass; and Corey M. Gloyd, a sophomore music major from Winchester, Va., on trumpet. Alexander D. Ward, who completed his studies in December and will graduate on May 4, from Staunton, Va., will accompany on drums.
For his junior piano recital, McLean will perform three movements, “Allegretto,” “Allegretto” and “Vivace” from Sonatina in G Major by Muzio Clementi. He will also perform three selections, Sonatina in A Minor, Song, Op. 39 and Etude in A Minor, by Dmitri Kabalevsky and two pieces, Prelude in C Minor and Prelude in E Minor, by Frédéric Chopin.
McLean is the son of Philip Davis of Dunn, N.C. McLean serves as pianist for the Jazz Ensemble and is student director of the Gospel Choir. He is also a member of the Concert Choir and the Chorale.
McLean studies piano under Dr. Larry Taylor, associate professor of music at Bridgewater College.
For his junior tenor voice recital, Barnes will perform three pieces, The Vagabond, Youth and Love and Whither Must I Wander by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Die beiden Grenadiere by Heinrich Heine. He also will perform An Die Musik by Franz Schubert and “Arm, Arm, Ye Brave” from Judas Maccabaeus by George Frideric Handel and Lydia by Gabriel Fauré.
Barnes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barnes of Columbia, Md. He is a member of the Concert Choir and the Chorale.
Barnes studies voice under Shannon Kiser, adjunct instructor in music at Bridgewater College. Lacey Johnson, instructor of music at the college, will accompany Barnes on piano.
The recital is free and open to the public.
